We’ve been nominated in the upstart category for the annual Flagpole Music Awards! We don’t currently ascribe to any particular scripture or dogma, but if there’s any truth out all in the world, this is probably it.
Television Episodes That Have Ingrained Themselves Into Our Collective Consciousness
We spent many a summer at “Camp Rerun,” watching the situation comedies of yore. Ten years later, we (mainly Emily) have a few very special episodes that relate to pretty much any situation.
- Full House- the one where Aunt Becky is worried that the twins Nicky and Alex aren’t interacting with anyone else at daycare, and Uncle Jesse doesn’t believe her BUT THEN HE WATCHES THEM AND SEES IT TOO AND EVERYONE IS WORRIED (this one obviously hits close to home). Also the one where Stephanie and friends start a band that only plays “I Saw the Sign” by Ace of Bass but then they spend all their time worrying about outfits and makeup and no time working on the music and they totally embarrass themselves and Uncle Jesse.
- Golden Girls- okay there are a lot of these ones because Camp Rerun was fueled mainly by Lifetime Television for Women. Emily’s are the one where Rose stays up all night to beat her painkiller addiction, the one where Dorothy has the sleeping disease, and the one where the gals’ lesbian friend falls in love with Rose. Catty’s is the one where Rose maybe gets molested by her dentist.
- The Nanny- (see above re: Camp Rerun, Lifetime) Another lesbian comedy of errors with one of Maxwell’s friends hitting on Fran. Also the one where Fran and her grandma play the spoons. Also all of them. (that theme song, y’all!)
- Step by Step- the one where Al wants to be an actress and does some really cheesy scene in a bar and is maybe in love with her costar? Sorry y’all, this one’s a little shady and I don’t feel like googling BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE CHEATING but it still really sticks out in my mind.
- Degrassi: The Next Generation- the one where Ashley does ecstasy and makes out with Spinner and then gets sent to rehab and shaves her head. Also (related) the one where Craig does coke and gets a nosebleed in the middle of his set opening for Taking Back Sunday.
Emily sports a “Meryl Streep in Mama Mia” look, while Catherine goes for a more conservative “putting the SWEAT in SWEATER” approach.
